Modules 1 - 5: Biosafety Principles and Practices. 2 day course (2-3 Nov 09)

Biosafety Overview: Principles of Containment level 1 - 4. (Level of containment in relation to risk group agent)
i. General lab practices and PPE. (Standard microbiology practices, Donning & Doffing PPE (exercise))
ii. Primary Containment Equipment (PCE) (Operation and maintenance of PCE, working with BSC)
iii. Special Laboratory Hazard. (Chemical, radioactive, fire, GMO etc)
Disinfection & minor spill response. (Type of disinfectant and function. Exercise on spill response involving level 1 & 2 agents )
Animal Biosafety
Biosafety Risk Assessment - Risk Group Classification, Hazard Identification (Emphasis on risk assessment working with level 1-2 agent)

Modules 6 - 12: Biosafety Management. 3 day course (4-6 Nov 09)
Pre-requisite: Biosafety Principles & Practices, Modules 1-5

i. International Biosafety standards
ii. Biosecurity
Biosafety Management, Safety Organization, SOP development, staff training & supervision.
Laboratory Risk Assessment (with work involving higher risk group agent. i.e. risk group 3 & 4 )
Decontamination & Waste management (include room decontamination technique & mechanism of action etc)
i. Emergency Response. (Involving major spill of higher risk group agent)
ii. Medical Surveillance
Shipping & Transportation of infectious material
i. Design & Containment Principal for Bio-contaiment Lab. Building a BSL3 facility
ii. BSL3 Maintenance & Operation
iii. Commissioning & Certification a containment laboratory

Module 13: Singapore Local legislation (BATA & WSHA) (4-6 Nov 09)

Special Modules (9-10 Nov 09)

Molecular Biology 101
GMO 101
Function of IBC

Module 15:

Engineering for Biosafety Personnel
